Exhibition: Existential Pluralism From September 26 to October 16, 2024
A highly anticipated exhibition featuring two of the gallery's historical artists. The paintings of Nicolas Monjo and the sculptures of Béatrice Fernando converse in the exhibition "Existential Pluralism." Blending humor, questioning, and reflection, Nicolas and Béatrice offer very different visions of humanity and its environment, a world where individuality and the diversity of human experiences are central. They emphasize the importance of recognizing the multiplicity of perspectives to fully grasp the complexity of human existence, as no single viewpoint can claim exclusivity to the truth.
Nicolas Monjo enjoys himself! Through the creation of subjects and compositions, he entraps his characters and creatures in increasingly inextricable situations. Entwined, one sometimes searches in vain to determine "who belongs to what." Nicolas Monjo tells stories that are open to interpretation—some may see reflections of society, others a stance or critique, or perhaps a quirky artist who lets his creativity run free but, constrained by the framework, must twist his characters to fit all his thoughts.
Béatrice Fernando conducts extensive research on materials; her sculptures are the result of decades of experimentation with different substances. The artist creates elongated, ethnic works that radiate a gentle softness and an almost tangible serenity. Her figures, whether solitary or in groups, evoke the timelessness of cultures and civilizations, appearing to have attained a spirituality that liberates them from physical constraints. Their mere presence is enough to fill the space. Regardless of the ethnic influences one might attribute to them, the artist is less interested in differences and more in commonalities. Everything that brings people together becomes a source of inspiration.
Nicolas Monjo and Béatrice Fernando share a passion for material, a universal language, and a deep sense of generosity. Their works have crossed oceans and almost all borders, with some collectors owning many pieces. Bringing them together for this exhibition is a way to expand the realm of possibilities and pay homage to their generosity.
